Despite criticism, it appears that Apple’s decision to drop the 3.5mm headphone jack might at least be well-timed. According to NPD, Bluetooth wireless headphones exceeded sales revenue of their wired counterparts in the US during the June sales period. Bluetooth wireless headphones accounted for 54-percent of headphone dollar sales during the month of June, and 17-percent of unit sales. NPD states that the entire headphone category saw a seven-percent year-over-year increase in dollar sales, while Bluetooth headphones within that category enjoyed a 42-percent increase during the same time frame....

NVIDIA has thrown down the gauntlet to Apple in the mobile chip power stakes. While the A8X chip used in the iPad Air 2 has so far blown away the competition, NVIDIA has shown off benchmarks indicating that its new mobile superchip, the Tegra X1, leaves it standing. Instead of showing content on the iPad, it gives a link to the NYPost App with the following statement: Subscriptions run $6.99 per month, $39.99 for six months or $79.99 for the year, with no option for single-issue digital purchases. …For the first time ever, two-thirds of new phone acquirers are buying smartphones. Smartphone use is exploding in the United States, while PC sales are dropping. If 66 percent of mobile phone buyers purchase smartphones, and 36.3-percent of them get the iPhone, then that means almost a quarter of all phones bought in the U.S. are iPhones. That also means 36 percent of the purchased phones run Android OS. Corroborating previous reports from various publications, Nikkei says that Apple has cut overall iPhone 12 production targets by about 20% for the first half of this year, with most of the shortfall coming from weak iPhone 12 mini demand. Nikkei also says that Apple Silicon MacBook Pro models were originally planned to enter mass production in May/June timeframe, but have now been pushed to the second half of the year. Nintendo today confirmed that it will be releasing Super Mario Run for Android on the Google Play Store on March 23. The game first made its debut on iOS in December last year amidst heavy marketing push from Apple.
